Application Process IMPORTANT TO KNOW: Apply for Admission to a course from 1 March -31 June annually You need provisional acceptance for a qualification at Stellenbosch University i.e. student number – to apply for SU Funding. Application Dates: SU (Institutional) Funding: 1 April – 31 August NB! Apply annually NSFAS Bursaries: 1 Aug until 30 Nov (NSFAS continuing students need not apply) SU Funding Applications: www.maties.com (Use student number & password to login) NSFAS: www.nsfas.org.za
SU Loans Current US Loan recipients receive financial assistance covering the cost of their tuition only (registration fees included) US Loans are allocated to the missing middle category 350K – 600K Interest free loans repayable at the prime rate R600 000 – R1 million with two/ more at tertiary institution Should a student receive other funding, including the tuition fee, the US Loan will be cancelled.
NSFAS BURSARY 2017 Presidential Pronouncement - “fully subsidised free higher education and training for poor and working class South Africans” – up to R350 000 gross household income p.a. The DHET Bursary Scheme will be phased in over a period of five years; started in 2018 Only introduced for new first time entry students (FTEN) into undergraduate studies at public higher education institutions. Senior students, gross household income not exceeding R122 000, can apply
NSFAS Continue Cover tuition, books, residence and food allowance Requirements Beneficiary must meet and maintain academic conditions/criteria – must pass 50% of the number of registered modules Academic requirements – must complete studies in the minimum number of years plus one year
IKUSASA STUDENT FINANCIAL AID SCHEME (ISFAP) Provide funding to students to cover the full cost of study through grants and bursaries to the working class and the missing middle for the following programmes. Economic and Management Sciences BComm Actuarial Science, B Accounting Engineering MBChB, BSc Physiotherapy and B Occupational Therapy This grant and/or loan will cover the following: tuition, accommodation, meal allowance, textbook allowance, monthly stipend
FIRST-YEAR MERIT BURSARIES Merit Awards are allocated automatically during May of each year. Calculated using the actual average of a prospective student’s final grade 12 exam results Exclude Life Orientation and Mathematics Paper 3 Matric Aggregate : 90% and higher = 40% discount on basic study fees (module costs excluded) The % rebate will depend on the number of qualifying candidates and the amount available for merit bursaries.
