Your child is so excited to bring home his/her R.E.D. (Read Every Day) Folder today! Please see the blue letter inside explaining what to do. RED Folders will come home most nights during the week and should be returned the very next school day, as we are using the books in class. I usually keep the RED Folders in the classroom on Fridays, but please let me know if you would like to have the folder over the weekend, if that works better for your family’s schedule. I have recently assessed each student on their 1st Grade sight words. This week you will receive a yellow letter and the results of how your child performed on this first assessment. The yellow letter will explain our sight word program. I will be assessing the students each quarter to make sure they are progressing towards our end of 1st grade goal of reading, spelling, and writing 100 sight words. We are making color-coded flash as well in order to help your child practice. After your child has mastered reading the sight words fluently (within 3 seconds), please begin working with your child on spelling and writing the sight words. We will practice in class as well.
