Presentation transcript:

Welcome from the Building Resilience Hub Our aim is to promote positive links with our families and help families have a better understanding of what we are doing in our school. Thank you all for coming to our first Building Resilience `coffee morning.’ The purpose of this coffee morning is to provide you with more information about the programme, to introduce you to our BR Hub, that is our pupil voice for the programme and to give you the opportunity to look at some of the resources and ask some questions.

This coffee morning is to provide extra information about the programme. The children in the Hub helped to organise today. Our BR Hub will be a big influence over what we do. These are pupils who have expressed some enthusiasm about BR and wanted to be a part of it.

The Background It began with… ‘Confident Staff, Confident Children Research. Pilot at South Morningside Primary Education Scotland Funding Good results and was rolled out across Edinburgh Schools. Schools in other authorities are now introducing it. So, why is resilience in our SIP and how can it support our pupils? Well, around 50 years ago scientists studying young people who had faced a challenging childhood, found that they went on to develop surprisingly well despite their difficult start. Researchers then became inspired to study what the things were that helped protect these children and enabled them to lead successful lives. Ten things emerged from their research: Positive relationships Ability to build on strengths Willingness to learn Good social and emotional skills Ability to ask for help Participation in activities Feeling like you belong Positivity Kindness and compassion for others Having a goal These ten things are our ten units in the programme.
