CYCLES OF CHANGE Text: Habakkuk 1:1-3:19

What Are the Cycles That Often Take Place in Order to Bring about a Positive Change?

I. THE CYCLE OF DESTRUCTION/DESPAIR (1:2-4) “How long, O LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, ‘Violence!’ but you do not save?” Habakkuk 1:2

I. THE CYCLE OF DESTRUCTION/DESPAIR (1:2-4) “3. Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds. 4. Therefore the law is paralysed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.” Habakkuk 1:2-4

I. THE CYCLE OF DESTRUCTION/DESPAIR (1:2-4) “When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, the hearts of the people are filled with schemes to do wrong.” Ecclesiastes 8:11

II. THE CYCLE OF DELAY (1:5; 2:3) “Look at the nations and watch — and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” Habakkuk 1:5 II. THE CYCLE OF DELAY (1:5; 2:3)

II. THE CYCLE OF DELAY (1:5; 2:3) “For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:3 II. THE CYCLE OF DELAY (1:5; 2:3)

III. THE CYCLE OF DELIVERANCE (2:13,14,20) “Has not the LORD Almighty determined that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing?” Habakkuk 2:13

III. THE CYCLE OF DELIVERANCE (2:13,14,20) “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” Habakkuk 2:14

III. THE CYCLE OF DELIVERANCE (2:13,14,20) “But the LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.” Habakkuk 2:20

IV. THE CYCLE OF DELIGHT (3:2,17,18) “LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.” Habakkuk 3:2

IV. THE CYCLE OF DELIGHT (3:2,17,18) “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, 18. yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” Habakkuk 3:17,18
