Ribs

Things to Know 3 Views AP above diaphragm AP below diaphragm Oblique

AP above diaphragm 14 x 17 crosswise Shield Marker 70 @ 32 Inspiration Collimate to skin borders

Positioning Patient erect with back against bucky Align the midline with midline Raise chin slightly No rotation

CR perpendicular to IR at about T7 3-4 inches below Jugular notch SID 40 Light field about 1 ½ above light field

Seen of film Ribs 1-9 or 1-10

AP below diaphragm 14 x 17 crosswise 70 @ 32 Expiration Collimate to skin margins

Positioning Same as Above All you do is lower CR

CR perpendicular Midway between Xiphoid tip and lower rib cage Bottom of Light should be at crest 40 SID

Seen on film Ribs 8-12

Oblique ribs 14 x 17 lengthwise 70 @ 32 Collimate to skin borders

Positioning Patient Erect or supine Place side of interest closest to IR for Posterior Place side of interest away from IR if anterior Rotate patient 45 degrees so injury is away from spine. Raise arm on injury side out of the way Align midway between spine and lateral margin of the side of interest to Midline of bucky.

CR is perpendicular SID 40 Area of interest mid way between Lateral margin of ribs and spine

Seen on Film The axillary portion of the ribs without imposition
