Sedimentary Rocks

Sedimentary Rocks Forms when particles of rocks, plants, or animals are cemented together. Forms strata which are layers

1.Weathering Running water or wind breaks rocks or organic material into sediments (pieces of rocks, plants, animals).

Running water or wind carries away sediments. 2. Erosion Running water or wind carries away sediments.

Sediment drops out of water or wind. 3.Deposition Sediment drops out of water or wind.

Pressing of sediment together. (make-up compact) 4.Compaction Pressing of sediment together. (make-up compact)

Dissolved minerals crystallize and glue sediments together. 5.Cementation Dissolved minerals crystallize and glue sediments together.

Types of Sedimentary Rock

Sediments squeezed together to form a rock. Clastic Rock Sediments squeezed together to form a rock. breccia

Rock with remains of plants and animals forming layers. Organic Rock Rock with remains of plants and animals forming layers. Limestone Coal

Minerals dissolved in a solution crystallize. Chemical Rock Minerals dissolved in a solution crystallize. limestone gypsum halite
