NUTRITIONAL FACTS

250 million children in the first 5 years of life not meeting their developmental potential (Lancet, 2017) Tanzania among the countries with the highest burden of early childhood development Leads to poor academic outcomes, later life physical and mental health problems, lower economic opportunities

Providing multiple protective inputs is potentially an effective and efficient use of resources to achieve multiple outcomes of interest Nutrition is a significant risk that threatens healthy growth and ECD. Nutrition intervention supports improved nutritional wellbeing and growth. Nutrition intervention alone is not enough to support ECD. Provision of parenting interventions and support for early learning achieve higher impacts on ECD. Combined packages of care may benefit multiple outcomes. Addressing common pathways of care Supporting caregivers (knowledge, skills, emotional wellbeing and resources) Efficient use of resources. Practical for families to have one service with ‘whole child’ care. Coordination of messages, and consistent messages.
