KEY ELEMENTS TO SYSTEMIC CHANGE DR. CASTRUITA

MONITORING THE FOLLOWING SIX ELEMENTS CAN HELP TO UNDERSTAND AN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS PROGRESS IN CHANGE VISION: AS THE VISION DEVELOPS PEOPLE IN THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM MUST BUY-IN IN ORDER FOR THE SYSTEM TO CHANGE 2. NETWORKING: BUILDING NETWORKS THAT STUDY, PILOT AND SUPPORT THE NEW VISION IS ESSENTIAL IN ESTABLISHING LASTING CHANGE

3.PUBLIC SUPPORT: AS THE VISION DEVELOPES AND IS TRANSLATED INTO PRACTICE,THE SUPPORT OF THE PUBLIC AND THE POLITICAL LEADERSHIP AT ALL LEVELS OF THE SYSTEM MUST GROW, MUST HAVE A DEEP UNDER- STANDING OF THE “WHAT AND WHY” OF THE CHANGE NEEDED 4. TEACHING AND LEARNING CHANGES: TEACHING AND LEARNING BASED ON THE BEST AVAILABLE RESEARCH ON HOW PEOPLE LEARN IS AT THE CORE OF THE NEW SYSTEM CHANGE

5.ADMINISTRATIVE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES TO ACHIEVE CHANGE IN THE CLASSROOM, ADMINISTRATIVE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES NEED TO SHIFT AT THE SCHOOL, DISTRICT AND STATE LEVELS AND MUST CREATE A SHARED DECISION MAKING THAT SUPPORTS OTHER VOICES 6. POLICY ALIGNMENT: STATE AND LOCAL POLICY NEED TO BE ALIGNED TO THE NEW SYSTEM, PARTICULARLY IN THE AREA OF CURRICULM
