Figure 1 ROC curves of FT for the detection of (A) moderate to severe fibrosis and (B) cirrhosis compared to all the other stages of tumors (F0–F3). The diagonal line represents that achieved by chance alone (AUROC, .50); the ideal AUROC is 1.00. For the primary outcome, the detection of F2–F4 fibrosis (panel A), the area under the curve of FT (line in bold) was .84 ± .03 and .79 ± .03 for hyaluronic acid, both highly significant, vs chance (P < .001); for detection of cirrhosis (panel B), the area under the curve of FT was .95 ± .01 and .93 ± .02 for hyaluronic acid, also very significant, vs chance (P < .001). However, the AUC for FT is not different from the AUC for serum hyaluronic acid. Figure 2 Relationship between fibrosis and FT and hyaluronic acid. Notched box plots showing the relationship between the stage of fibrosis and (A) FT and (B) hyaluronic acid. The horizontal line inside each box represents the median and the width of each box, the median ± 1.57 interquartile range/÷n to assess the 95% level of significance between group medians. Failure of the shaded boxes to overlap signifies statistical significance (P < .05). The horizontal lines above and below each box encompass the interquartile range (25th–75th percentile), and the vertical lines from the ends of the box encompass the adjacent values (upper: 75th percentile + 1.5 times interquartile range, lower 25th percentile − 1.5 times interquartile range). Figure 3 ROC curves of AT and FT for the detection of alcoholic hepatitis. FT (bold curve) yielded the higher AUROC, .72 (.04) vs AT (lower curve), .60 (.04) (P = .04).
