Development Brainstorm with those near you and make a list of three things that indicate the level of development within a country. Ex: quality of roads
UN Millennium Development Goals The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which range from halving extreme poverty rates to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – form a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions. They have galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world’s poorest. The UN is also working with governments, civil society and other partners to build on the momentum generated by the MDGs and carry on with an ambitious post-2015 development agenda. http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/
Millennium Development Goal Poster In groups of three you will create an awareness poster for one of the MDG’s. Here are your directions: Using your phone or a classroom computer, click on the UN MDG website http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/ Find the icon for your “main goal” and click on it. The main goal will have target goals listed underneath. Read through them as a group then: Create a poster by: Write the main goal large and at the top. Write each of the target goals beneath. Summarize the data to convey the importance of achieving this goal and it’s targets. As a group DISCUSS and come up with TWO OF YOUR OWN SOLUTIONS/PLAN OF ACTION as to how the world could work together to achieve this. Create a visual that sums up the gist of your goal (get creative on your own… do not simply copy the symbol on the UN website.)
