History and Overview of our School Principal Debra Johnson Background of FLVS – principal Our School’s Mission “The number one priority of the school is the students—they are at the center of every decision we make” (FLVS)

Membership Procedures Attendance at Meetings – must be present to formally become a member Attendance via Elluminate afterward Voting and Non-voting Members Importance of all Stakeholders Purpose of SAC is to ensure school is working towards continuous improvement and accountability “for all students at the school”.

Elections and Voting Principal – Required Member Teachers – Must be elected by other teachers Parents – Must be elected by other parents Students – Must be elected by other students Community Members – appointed Business Partners – appointed Non Instructional Personnel – Elected by other non- instructional personnel Membership should be an even balance of stakeholders (all of the above membership groups, as well as a demographic match as close as possible to the demographics of district)

School Improvement Plan School improvement plans must be voted on by the SAC committee voting members and approved for School Year 2011-2012. We will hold a vote on our SIP in October. Table further discussion and vote on the SIP next month.

SAC Bylaws School Advisory Council Bylaws are created together with the members of the SAC committee. Once created, they must be voted on. Our bylaws are on the website and constructed last year.

Response to Intervention Team (RtI) This is a team of professionals put together by the principal to ensure that all students are having their needs met by the school. This team closely monitors each student to ensure they are progressing well.

Literacy Learning Team This is a team of teachers in charge of ensuring that the literacy needs of all students are being met. This includes the following: Students in the lower percent of readers Students reading on grade level Students showing gifted traits or reading at high levels.

Palm Beach Virtual Reading Initiatives “Taking Care” initiative Offering resources to students as needed Using Elluminate for Peer Read Alouds Tutoring each month at the physical school HOT questions to press students to “think” during DBAs Promoting leadership in clubs, such as community service and technology clubs being started this year. Promote advanced level courses for advanced students Promote the FLVS “Virtual Library” Promote the FLVS program “Unplug and Read”
