“Here comes McDonald's all-day breakfast”

Nationwide McDonald’s will begin serving all-day breakfast starting Tuesday. The new CEO of McDonald's, Steve Easterbrook, is making big changes to try to boost the chain's stagnant sales. His boldest move yet: all-day breakfast. McDonald's started testing all-day breakfast in a few places in March. To go nationwide, more than 14,300 restaurants in the U.S. needed to install separate griddles and train staff on how to handle breakfast orders simultaneously with lunch and dinner. McDonald's insists that franchisees and customers supported the decision to serve pancakes and egg sandwiches all day long. McDonald's hopes it can stem their recent losses by getting new customers into its restaurants, while ensuring that loyal lunch and dinner customers don't opt for breakfast instead because those items generally cost less. All-day breakfast is just one piece of Easterbrook’s plan for McDonald's. Since he took over in March, the company has also taken steps to improve food quality. It now requires chicken suppliers to reduce the use of antibiotics and started using real butter instead of liquid margarine.

In Other News Facebook and other big tech companies have just lost big time in Europe. They might soon be forced to radically change the way they deal with user data after the European Union's top court ruled Tuesday that they can't simply hand it over to U.S. authorities. The court declared invalid a 2000 deal that allowed Facebook and other tech firms to transfer users' data in huge quantities to their servers in the U.S., because it was considered safe. But the European Court of Justice ruled in favor of Austrian law student Max Schrems. He had complained about the way Facebook transfers his personal data to the U.S., where it can be accessed by authorities with little respect for his privacy. One of the happiest places on earth now costs more than $1,000 a year to visit. Disneyland has upped the price of its most expensive pass -- the one with no blackout dates -- to $1,049, that's up from $779. The more expensive passes come with additional benefits. For example, the top Disney World pass now includes admission to the water parks and the Disney Oak Trail golf course on its property. The Disneyland pass also includes free pictures that staffers take of pass holders -- something that otherwise costs as much as $199. There are less expensive annual passes that have blackout dates during the park's most popular periods. Disney is also in the process of Star War-themed expansions of the two parks, the largest expansions ever at the parks.
