The author’s technique is the way he or she uses words to make ideas come alive on the page. We are about to read _ Who is the author? As you read, look for the following techniques: Word Choice- Is it formal or informal? Dialogue- How do the characters speak? What does this tell you about the characters’ backgrounds? Tone- what is the author’s attitude toward the subject? Mood- what feeling do you get from reading this passage? Sensory language- does the author make you see, hear, taste, smell or feel?
