General Stuff ALWAYS wash your hands with soap and water when we are done with lab—NOT HAND SANITIZER Keep your hands away from your face You are responsible for washing your glassware, counter and other equipment Never eat, drink, or chew gum in the lab area Do not put paper, solids, or other trash in the sink
Working with Glassware Check for chips and cracks Clean and air dry Do not handle broken glass Handle glass tubing (including thermometers) with care Put glassware on table before pouring Do not carry reagent bottles to workstation Do not place hot glass on the counter
Heating in Lab Handle equipment with special tongs Crucible Beaker Test tube Keep hot pad out and available for the entire lab Nothing goes on the hot plate or in the flame except what is directed in lab
Burner Safety Extinguish flames before disassembling burner Do not leave flame unattended Do not reach over burner or heated materials Keep all combustibles away from the flames
