Campaigning Objective To know and understand the criteria for a good campaign To explore ways in which we can plan effective campaigns which make a difference

What makes a good campaign? Well planned? Aims achieved? Sense of humour? Positive media? Other? Use your own campaigning experience to justify your answers Ext : Can you think of contemporary examples that fit into these?

Steps to planning a successful campaign Step 1 : Clarify your overall aim Improve Haverstock carbon footprint? Why is this important? Promote fairtrade products in school? New cycle lane for Haverstock Hill ?

Steps to planning a successful campaign Step 2 : Decide on your objectives (goals that will help you achieve your aim) Decrease carbon footprint by 10% Increase fairtrade sales by 10% Why is advisable to start with smaller goals?

Steps to planning a successful campaign Step 3 : What will your TACTICS be? (ie action) Why is it important to discuss various options and be as creative as possible in your proposed tactics?

Steps to planning a successful campaign Step 4 : Match TACTICS to OBJECTIVES Once the above has been decided, what do you think needs to happen next?

Steps to planning a successful campaign Step 5 : Roles and Responsibilities Why is it important to allocate the above? On what basis would you allocate the above?

Evaluating own campaign work Select a campaign you have been involved in Write a paragraph briefly outlining the campaign Use the ‘steps to successful campaigning’ to define your chosen campaign Questions to answer: Evaluate your campaign and identify the steps you would need to approach differently next time? In what way could the ‘steps to successful campaigning’ promote active citizenship?
