An Introduction to: Advertising

Advertising Defined Advertising a paid form of communication from an identifiable source, delivered through a communication channel (TV, Print, Internet), and designed to persuade the viewer/audience to take some action, now or in the future

Advertising and YOU It is estimated that the average 20-year-old American has seen one million commercial messages throughout his or her life. Teens are the fastest growing consumer demographic, spending billions ($150 billion to be exact) of dollars each year, and thus commanding the attention of many companies and advertisers.

Advertising Statistics... In 1983, companies spent $100 million marketing to kids. Today, they're spending nearly $17 billion annually. That's more than double what it was in 1992.
