No drugs. No extra effort. No extra cost” "This intervention is kindness” Slide 4 "When surgical patients are shown kindness and encouragement but their anaesthetists during their immediate postoperative period, they require 50% less narcotics.” Slide 5 "When patients receive compassionate care in A&E, they are less likely to return to A&E for the same medical issue.” "And there’s research to prove all of this.” Slide 6 - "But what is kindness?”  This slide would give you the opening to talk about - how kindness is not just about being nice  - it’s about being honest - don’t fail to tell someone something that they need to hear - integrity  - don’t substitute a kind platitude for the truth someone needs to hear. - kindness can go unnoticed, unremarked or even unwanted – for example taking work off someone who’s overworked. Slide 7 - This slide gives the opening to talk about the links between kindness and safe, effective and person centred care. Slide 8 - The story about your Mum in hospital and her cup of tea in the middle of the night. Slide 9 - Questions for delegates
