English teachers writing? The diverse ways in which English teachers are required to write in their everyday work, which might be crudely categorised as ‘utilitarian’ The writing that English teachers choose to do that goes beyond merely utilitarian forms and tasks The writing that falls on, or around, the boundary separating these two notions GP to speak to this slide

Four traditions of writing in English teaching? Teacher writing to improve student writing Writing as a form of inquiry, often initiated by the teacher (action research etc), which may or may not be explicitly connected to the teaching of writing Writing as a form of advocacy - in the public sphere but also within the profession Writing as/for identity development GP to take this one. Explaining these traditions in general terms

1. Teacher writing to improve student writing SB to speak to next slides about the particular examples of texts published early on and in more recent times 1987

2. Writing as a form of inquiry, often initiated by the teacher (action research, narrative inquiry, critical autobiography etc) SB 1971

3. Writing as a form of advocacy - in the public sphere but also within the profession 2007 SB. Maybe also include the cover of the Advocacy issue of Idiom that you edited with Natalie and 2011
