Indian Homework Due the week beginning 4th March All students are expected to complete the first set of questions. Responses to these questions will be discussed in lessons next week; be prepared to answer any of them. You do not need to write down answers unless you feel it will help you in remembering what you have listened to. Students thinking of taking music at GCSE should answer the second set of questions as well.

Questions Describe what you hear in the background of this piece. Give two ways the violin is played differently to a violin in our culture. How can you tell that the instrumentalists are improvising? Give two reasons. What time of day do you think this piece of Indian music could be performed? Give at least one musical reason to justify your choice. Describe the interaction between the Sitar and Shinai (clarinet instrument). Classical Indian music forms a key part of their faith and culture. What in the performance backs this up? What happens at the end of the piece?
