Nate Herbst Southern Ute Indian Tribe Siting Activity Nate Herbst Southern Ute Indian Tribe

Siting Criteria Siting criteria ensure correct analysis location Data must be representative of local exposure Different ways of determining (ex. PSDs) Unrestricted airflow 270o around the inlet; 180o if inlet is on side of building Inlet must be 3-15 meters above ground Inlet must be at least 1 meter from supporting structure List courtesy of Stan Belone Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community

Siting Criteria (cont.) Inlet must be separated from obstructions by a distance 2 times that height obstruction protrudes above inlet AQ site must be 10 meters from roadways with ≤ 10,000 vehicles/day 20 meters from roadways with 10-20,000 vehicles/day AQ site must be 20 meters from drip line of trees 10 meters if trees act as an obstruction

Monitoring Objectives Determine monitoring objectives Determine boundaries Determine representative area Determine where site will be Then go through these siting principals

Airflow Must be unrestricted airflow 270o around inlet (180o for inlets on side of building) Unrestricted airflow 270o around inlet?

Height off Ground Inlet must be 3-15 meters above ground

Height off Structure Inlet must be 1 meter off supporting structure 1 meter above structure?

Distance from Obstructions Inlet must be separated from obstruction by twice height that obstruction protrudes above inlet 2X difference in height?

Distance from Roadways Must be10 meters from roads with up to 10,000 vehicles/day Must be 20 meters from roads with between 10 and 20,000 vehicles/day 10 meters from highway?

Distance from Trees Inlet must be 20 meters from drip-line of trees

Where should it go? Where should ozone analyzer inlet go? Why or why not? x x C B x A

Where should it go? (cont.) Where should ozone analyzer inlet go? Why or why not? A x C x x B

Where should it go? (cont.) This road has ~ 6,000 vehicles/day Is this sampler sited correctly? Why or why not?

Summary Siting criteria must be met before monitoring Don’t just throw up monitors in random places Siting criteria must also meet monitoring objectives
