Anne Of green gables Anne of Green Gables is a 1908 book by Lucy M. Montgomery. It was written for all ages, but has been considered a classic children's novel since the mid-twentieth century. It is set in the late 19 century. The novel recounts the adventures of an 11 year old orphan named Anne Shirley.

Why was she important? She writes about Canadian history the same way as Louisa May Alcott writes about American history. Both were writers fiction and were able to describe social conditions that they lived with in that age.
