Marty Lewis Founder & CEO Hello ladies and gentlemen, my name is Marty Lewis, CEO and founder of Appliance Innovations. I’d like to talk to you today about my latest invention, the web-enabled intelligent refrigerator. Imagine a refrigerator with a flat panel LCD that is connected to a computer. This computer is connected to sensors embedded in the shelves and drawers that are capable of detecting the weight, size and temperature of food items. A database of different food items are uploaded to the refrigerator computer from participating web grocers. So when you purchase a gallon of milk and place it on the shelf, the computer detects a new item placed on the shelf, compares it against a database of known food items, and by the items weight, temperature and size, the computer can display a list of matching items on the LCD display. The user then selects the appropriate item and the computer can track its weight and thereby determine which items are running out. So when the consumer is at work, they can connect to the refrigerator which will generate a grocery list that can then be submitted to many participating web grocers.

Proliferation of Grocery Sales into the Online Marketplace Since 1999, the online grocery sales have approximately doubled every year, and next year will be nearly a $9 billion dollar industry. While this appears to be a very strong market, it occupies less than 2% of the regular brick and mortar grocery store sales. The reason for the poor proliferation of online grocery sales is due to fees associated with the delivery of groceries, the time required to select items and place an online order and the general uneasiness of not being able to personally select fruits and vegetables. Strategic Appliance Partners Kenmore GE Whirlpool Kitchen Aid Maytag Frigidaire Appliance Innovations will help to overcome these barriers by partnering with select web grocery stores that have agreed to waive their delivery fees for AI customers. Better yet, these grocery stores are prepared to offer Appliance Innovation a percentage of sales that are generated using the web enabled intelligent refrigerator depending on the amount of revenue generated by use of the fridge. AI hopes that the intelligent inventory and automatic generation of grocery lists will greatly reduce the amount of time required to purchase groceries and increase the amount of sales sent to partner grocers.
