West Linn Youth Lacrosse Parent/Player Informational Meeting Jan 30, 2019 WLHS COMMONS Grades 1 - 4:    6:30 - 7:15 pm

WLYL BOARD President- Matt LaForce Vice President – Heidi Lopez Treasurer – Scott Demorest Secretary – Christina Loun/Zane Brown Equipment Manager- Matt Loun/Zane Brown

We want the kids to have FUN! WLYL Philosophy We want the kids to have FUN! Practice is Mandatory Not Optional. Its not about wins and losses!-Score will be kept this year. SPORTSMANSHIP IS PARAMOUNT! No carpooling request, teams get stacked that way Kids play with same grade group. We don’t play up.

Weather Policy We play rain, snow, or shine. If lightning or thunder we stop all youth activities until 30 minutes after last reported sighting/sound (Be on call). Report Concussions to coach and WLYL Board

WLYL CONCUSSION PROTOCOL Child gets injury to head child sits and takes off equipment Parents take child to MD for concussion testing Parents notify coach and WLYL President or Vice President or Mark Flood Child sits until MD clearance (we need MD paperwork) After MD clearance child resumes light workouts no contact With Parental/MD consent child resumes play after no ill effects from workouts.

Equipment STICK Shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves. Get fitted! Helmet properly fitted and buckled. Name taped on Front and Back of helmet. Mouthpiece (no Mouthpiece=No play) Tied Cleats Water Bottle w/ Childs Name Athletic Supporter and Cup WLYL Shorts and Jersey! YES! = NO!

WLYL Preseason Training Grades 1-2***DO NOT ATTEND Preseason Training Sessions. YOUR SEASON STARTS SUNDAY THE WEEK AFTER SPRING BREAK. Grades 3-4 Check in your child at top of stadium and pick up jersey/shorts etc. Please have your child try to attend one preseason training so we can make sure teams get made even Check webpage for dates and times –YOUTH INFORMATION TAB!!!

WLYL Grades 1-2 West Linn High School or Rosemont Sundays afternoons ~April 7– ~ June 2nd) (check webpage Youth Information) Have child dressed and ready to go. Parents leave children, do not come on field or walk track. Drills/fun games and basic skills focus with HS players.

WLYL Grade 3-4 Schedule Mary S Young Park Practice and Games (Coach sets game schedule/posted online) ~ April 3- ~ June 5 (Mon and Weds 5:30- 7pm) All teams practice two nights a week together (no extra individual team practices). One game a week/show up 45 min early. Have positions, referees, goalies, penalties, 6 on 6 format. Ensure child does not leave trash or equipment behind (lax bag?) ALL WL REC TEAMS ARE EQUAL!

End of Season WLYL Jamboree (check webpage) ~ Sun Early June Potluck BBQ Picnic at the WLHS Stadium, bring dish

Parental Responsibilities Attend a WLHS or JV game (free until playoffs) with your child-watch college games on ESPN! Be punctual/ PROMPT FOR practice PICKUP (at field for MSY and WLHS not parking lot) and game day arrival!! No snacks, no team names (Lions) no trophies, just let em have some fun

Parental Responsibilities Do not complain about the officiating! DO NOT ATTEND PRACTICE!!!!!!! Do not approach the coaches/ref’s after a game about an issue-- give them a break and let them go home. Learn this game from your child Major Problems - Directly to coaches via email or phone. If its major contact WLYL board.

Parental Responsibilities Grades 1-2: LEAVE THEM WITH US-pick up ontime! Do not walk/track or approach your child during practice (If at WLHS pick up at top of stadium). Grades 3-4: DROP EM OFF AND LEAVE-But show up on time for pick up on the MSY muddy fields. 3-4 GAME: Parents on opposite side of field (DO NOT TALK/APPROACH YOUR CHILD DURING THE GAME) -get there about ~45 minutes early

WLYL Coaches Responsibilities Former Players (not parents) They are there to get the kids better at lacrosse. If your child misbehaves they will remove them from practice and ask that you talk with them about proper behavior before returning. Ensure all kids play, have fun, and be a role model (we don’t need Bobby Knights on the sideline) Coaches cant leave practice/games field till all kids are picked up

Player Responsibilities Do not talk smack to the opposing players on the other team or to other kids from other teams at any lacrosse function!!! You represent West Linn-Show class Do not bully (parents before you send emails to the board please ensure your child is not the one doing the bullying!) If you commit a penalty own up to it and don’t worry about it!

Player Responsibilities Do not leave trash or your equipment- please clean the field after the game/practice. Do not complain about the refs or say that was a bad call. Treat officials with respect! Shake the hands with the other team saying good game and then shake the officials hand after the game and address them with respect.

Player Responsibilities Earth Day April 20,2019 Community Service for All WLYL players no games scheduled. Heidi Lopez WLYL Vice-President working with City of West Linn to set up community service activity (more info to come)– will be posted on Youth Info tab.

WLYL Grade 5-8 Schedule Parker Road Practice Games at Rosemont Ridge or WLHS (Coach sets schedule) ~ April 6~ June 5 Two practices and a game. Want teams to practice together. Players suit up before taking practice field. At Rosemont spectators on the hill not on the field at HS stadium sit in stadium not bleachers behind players Ensure child does not leave trash or equipment behind (lax bag?) ALL WL REC TEAMS ARE EQUAL (no A, B, C teams)! We are in Division 1 (not premiere league)

WLYL Grade 5-8 Schedule Parker Road Practice Games at Rosemont Ridge or WLHS (Coach sets schedule will be posted online) ~ April 6~ June 5 Grades 5/6: Practices Tues and Fri at Parker Road (~5:30-7:30 pm) with weekday/weekend games). Grades 7/8 (may have some early faceoff and goalie training): Practices Weds and Thurs at Parker Road (~5:30-7:30 pm) with weekday/weekend games)

Be a good positive teammate (some kids are beginners and they need your support!). If you commit a penalty own up to it and don’t worry about it! No double palms up… Shoot overhand and use 2 hands on a groundball
