Facts about the Nevado Del Ruiz Volcano -The colombian volcano Nevado del Ruiz is an active stratovolcano with a history of generating deadly volcanic mudflows from relatively small-volume eruptions. -The eruption happened November 13th, 1985. -Approximately 23 thousand people died. -Nevado del Ruiz is located in Northern Colombia, South America. "How Volcanoes Work - the Nevado Del Ruiz Eruption." How Volcanoes Work - the Nevado Del Ruiz Eruption. N.p., n.d.

Causes of the Nevado del Ruiz Eruption -The volcano erupted due to density and pressure. -The lower density of the magma relative to the surrounding rocks causes it to rise. -It rises to the surface or to a depth that is determined by the density of the magma and the weight of the rocks above it. "Volcano World." Volcano World. N.p., n.d. Web. 02 Feb. 2015.

Effects of the Nevado del Ruiz Eruption -When the volcano erupted in November 1985, there were tangled masses of trees, cars, and bodies. -Altogether, about 23 thousand people and 13 thousand animals were killed. -Another 4500 people injured & about 8 thousand people were homeless. -The estimated cost of the disaster is 1 billion dollars. Fun Facts about Nevado del Ruiz Over at the more famous Nevado del Ruiz, seismicity has increased dramatically over the course of 2011 (the 20 year anniversary since its last eruption). During the month of August alone, almost 400 likely volcanically-related earthquakes occurred at Ruiz Sulfur dioxide measurements are listed as "moderate" but no signs of deformation have occurred at the volcano. All that shaking means that Ruiz is also on yellow alert status, suggesting that an eruption might be in the cards

Pictures of Nevado Del Ruiz These are some of the beautiful views of the Nevado Del Ruiz Volcano.

Facts about the Nevado del Ruiz Volcano The summit elevation is 5,384 miles. The eruption destroyed the city of Armero. The town was swept away/buried in 3 short minutes. It killed about 3 quarters of the population in that time. The eruption destroyed 13 thousand buildings/structures. "Earth Sciences Research Journal." Open Journal Systems. N.p., n.d.
