The Powers of the Presidency Main Idea The powers of the presidency, outlined in Article II of the Constitution, are vast and have grown throughout the history of the United States. They are, however, checked by the other branches of government.

The Powers of the Presidency Focus Questions What are the executive powers of the president? What are the diplomatic powers of the president? What are the military powers of the president? How does the president exercise legislative powers? How does the president exercise judicial powers? What are some of informal powers of the president? How are the president’s powers checked by the other branches? In what ways has presidential power changed over the years?
