In terms of scientific and technological EU program titled “7th Framework Program”, the Institute performs LEOSWEEP project in which the following companies participate: Engineering company (Sener Ingenieria y Sistemas) Polytechnic University of Madrid Spain TransMIT Gesellschaft für Technologietransfer mbH German Aerospace Center Germany University of Southampton Great Britain The National Centre for Scientific Research The Laboratory of Plasma Physics (Laboratoire de Physique des Plasmas) France Private aerospace industrial company “DEIMOS ENGENHARIA S.A.” Portugal The Institute of Technical Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences and the State Space Agency of Ukraine “Yuzhnoe” Design Office (Yuzhnoye SDO) Ukraine International Centre of Space Law (ICSL) Ukraine and Russia The purpose of the LEOSWEEP project (“Low-Earth orbit safety increase with the help of advanced electric propulsion”) is to demonstrate the technological feasibility of the first active mission to remove the upper stage of one of Ukrainian missiles, to prove its economic expediency, and the real path that will lead in future to the beginning of large scale active procedures for debris removal which relates to the jurisdiction of Ukraine, Europe and other countries with space programs.
