SCIENCE APP REVIEW BY: SARAH SMITH

APP: ELEMENT MATCH (BY STATE AND TABLETS) 1. Is the app easy to understand right away? The app is very easy to use. I was never confused while using it and could easily use it without a problem. Everything on the app is labelled as well so you know exactly where to go. You wouldn’t need anyone else to explain it to you so you don’t need to take time to really know how to use it properly. 2. Will it help with what you’re learning in science? It will help for only some parts. It teaches you to memorize all the elements on the periodic table which isn’t necessary for Science 9. You don’t need to memorize it because on tests she gives us copies to use. Although, it teaches you to understand the neutrons and eloectrons in an atom, which we learned in a unit. I think it would for sure help people get a better understanding of it.

Do you think students would use it? I think that students could use it to test themselves before a science test. I know that I would use it because it gives visuals on the lessons so if you’re a visual learner, it can help you. Also, when you do quizzes, it allows you to get a hint if you can’t remember the answer, and it times how long it takes you to answer the questions which I think students would find useful.

Is it a good quality app? The app is overall good quality. It doesn’t take long to load, and doesn’t crash. There’s also no advertisements in the app so there will be no distractions and the app is well set up and put together.

What kind of features doe it have? The app is made for quizzing yourself on basic chemistry. The different subjects are: atomic orbals, the charges of an atom, and memorizing the element names on the periodic table. When you take the quiz, it will give you one hint in case you can’t figure out the answer, and it times how long it takes for you to finish the quiz. The quiz is multiple choice as well and you choose from around 5 different answers. When you get an answer right, your phone buzzes, which some people may not like. There is no setting to turn it off either.

How does it help students learn? This can help students learn all the basics in the chemistry unit in science 9. If they are able to understand these, the rest of the unit will make much more sense. Quizzing yourself is always a good way to keep things stuck in your head. If students were to use it for even just 5 minutes a day, they could get an A on the test! They are able to work on it at home in their own time on a device they always have with them anyways.
