Q.1 HOW TO MARK ANSWERS Level One = 1 Mark = Grade E Answer selects relevant detail(s) from source. eg ‘The patient was held down’; or ‘They are wearing ordinary clothes’. Level Two = 2 – 3 Marks = Grades D/C Valid inferences (guesses) are offered, but without support from sources. eg ‘Surgery would be seen as a last resort’; or ‘Infection was a problem in surgery’. Level Three = 4 – 6 Marks = Grades B/A/A* Valid inferences (guesses) are made and supported from the source. eg ‘The fact that they are holding the patient down suggests that it must have been very painful’ or ‘The presence of spectators suggests that they were not worried about infection’.
