Auto Body Technician By: Allison Wells

What Options are available within the field? There are many different things to do in an auto body. If I were to group them all into big categories, I would say you can paint and repair.

Salary Range for Those Different Options If you are working in an auto body and you are a painter you will receive $20.69 an hour, $43,040 a year. If you are a repairer you are paid $21.94 an hour, $45,630 a year. If you are lucky enough to be the top 10% of repairers you are paid $33.98 an hour, $70,670 a year. If you are the worst 10% of repairers you only get paid $12.24 an hour, $25,470 a year.

Education or Special Training Requirements To work in an auto body you must have a certificate or associate’s degree in auto body repair. Something optional you could have is Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification.

Schools or Organization that Offer that Education or Training There are many different schools to go to. The Universal Technical Institute is in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and California. It responds quickly to information requests. There is also Penn Foster Career School in Pennsylvania, Penn Foster High School in Pennsylvania, Ferris State University in Michigan, Dunwoody College of Technology in Minnesota, Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma, Milwaukee Area Technical College in Wisconsin, and Century College in Michigan.

Special Qualities and Abilities Needed for Someone to do the job well For someone to do the job well they will need to know of new technologies and unibody construction. They must also have good math and reading skills and be computer literate. Having formal training through community colleges and trade schools. They also must be able to understand manuals and diagrams. Unibody: A single molded unit forming both the bodywork and chasses (vehicle frame) of a vehicle.

Someone Well-Known in the Auto Body Field Someone well-known in the auto body field is Henry Ford. He was born on July 30, 1863 and died on April 17, 1947. Henry was an American captain of industry and a business magnate, the founder of the Ford Motor Company, and the sponsor of the development of the assembly line technique of mass production. Ford did not invent the automobile or the assembly line, but he did make one that was easier to afford.

My Reaction to the Information Gained I still do like this job but I wish the salary was more. I am still a kid so I don’t know how much money other jobs make, so I don’t have anything to compare the salary to, but I think the salary should be more.

Where the Information came from Learn.org was a website I used to find schools. Work.chron.com was a website I used to find the salary range. Study.com was a website I used to find education requirements and what job options are available. Employmentnorth.com was a website I used to find qualities and abilities to do the job well.
