Boundary conditions - Status RDE-LDV working group 20 November 2012, Brussels, EU DG - Joint Research Centre (JRC) IET - Institute for Energy and Transport

Environmental conditions Ambient temperature Humidity Altitude JRC proposal for consistency with HD regulation 582/2011 ACEA study (EU27/EU15, on-going)

Driving conditions Definitions for Low, Medium, and High Speed Based on WLTP : Low speed/Medium speed/High speed/Extra high speed Idling: definition, percentages, and durations Shares of Low, Medium and High Speed driving Average speeds of speed phases Low, Medium and High Speed driving Driving dynamics (vehicle accelerations) RPA (exact definition required) Road gradient Under discussion JRC study (Statistics on EU WLTP data, on-going) Use of ‘composite’ indicators (engine load, CO2) [JRC]? Normalisation approach [TUG/ACEA]

Procedure design elements Time of vehicle testing It is recommended to conduct emissions tests under normal daytime traffic conditions (Regulation 582/2011). Permissible vehicle loading RC/PEMS testing with vehicles those mass at test start does not exceed the maximum permissible operating mass as specified by the manufacture including the vehicle's chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers, test equipment, and cargo, but excluding the mass of trailers. Weather conditions The test shall be conducted meeting the requirements defined for atmospheric pressure and test temperature; no other restrictions apply. Permissible fuel Test fuels shall be market fuels (Directive 98/70/EC; amended by Directive 2009/30/EC) or reference fuels (Regulation 692/2008, Annex IX)

Procedure design elements Total test duration Number of speed phases Rules for weighing/excluding data points Cold/hot start RC: data base, source, number of short trips; gear shift strategy Covered pollutants To be proposed later
