We believe that reading can be for everyone We publish short, accessible books by big name authors The books are written to literacy guidelines but have all the action and emotion of the authors other books We carry out wide ranging activity in partnership with experts to get the books into the hands of the people who need them most

We Aim... To change lives through reading To be the bridge between literacy and literature To be enthusiasts and to work with experts That everyone everywhere feels good about their involvement with us

The ESOL Nexus project The project is funded by the European Fund for the integration of third country nationals (EIF) Our main aim is to support ESOL learners and teachers via web-based resources

The project has three key features: The website Pilot centres and link teachers ESOL resource specialists

NRDC Research: main findings Pair work and group work encourage progress Teachers should allow more time for learners to engage in active reading Self study is essential if learners are to persist and progress Expanding time spent on task inside and outside the classroom is crucial to helping learners make progress, especially since provision typically takes the form of just one class a week. Burton, M. (2007)

Oral Fluency Burton et al suggest that methods to help adults develop oral fluency such as paired reading; choral reading, partnered reading and performance reading can all help learners to make significant gains in reading comprehension and confidence

NIACE evaluation of Quick Reads (2013 ) Working with teachers is successful in getting Quick Reads to the people who will most benefit from them Quick Reads continue to reach new audiences Readers/learners and the people who support them place a high value on the books and resources Using Quick Reads has a positive impact on literacy levels and literacy confidence of readers and learners Using Quick Reads has range of additional benefits for learners in terms of progress in learning and reading including improved confidence and improved communication

I was introduced to these books by a dyslexic relative, and I've never looked back. I take them to all my lessons across various teaching and tutoring jobs. They are part of my teaching toolbox! ESOL Teacher

It has great potential to: build confidence in reading and speaking in a group develop creative, independent and critical thinking develop the ability to question, read between the lines and compare and contrast information Identify and explore idioms and informal language A Quick Reads Reading Group is a social activity to meet other people, share ideas, build confidence in oral fluency and relationships with peers.

ESOL Nexus reading groups I like this course a lot and I find it useful to get into a good English reading routine, get some ESOL material and know little by little more English
