Transportation Please contact the office no later than 1:45 for changes. Car riders must be picked up by 3:00. Late pick-ups will be sent to extended day and be charged a $15.00 drop off fee.

Carline Please do not get out of the car to help your child, a teacher will be there to help Do not pass others cars in the carline Carline starts at 7:10 and ends at 7:35. Wait for a teacher before you let your child out

Expanded Day After school care from 3-6pm Accepting registrations for full-time, part-time, drop-in Registration information found on website or front office

Money Please include drivers license and phone number on all checks. Please send it in an envelope in your child’s binder

Medication Students should not carry medicine including cough drops to school All medication must go through the school nurse

Children and illness at school Our school policy states that you should not send your child to school if he/she has: 1. Fever in the past 24 hours (temp of 100+) 2. Vomiting or diarrhea in the past 8 hours 3. Chills 4. Sore throat 5. Strep throat 6. Bad cold with a very bad runny nose or bad cough 7. Head lice unless they have been treated according to the nurse or doctor’s instruction.

Classroom Snacks Please follow nutrition guidelines found on Madison City Website. No sharing snacks. Please send a snack everyday for your child.

Lunch If you would like to join us for lunch (10:55) please check in at the office. We have tables for you to sit at during lunch with your child. Lunch menu is available on the Heritage website. May bring food, but cannot share with others.

Birthdays Invitations will only be sent home from school if the whole class is invited. If you would like to celebrate with the class -no treats from home, but you may purchase ice cream for them from the lunchroom.

Classroom Parties We will have 2 parties this school year. We will have a Holiday Party in December and an end of the year celebration. Permissions slips will be sent home for treats to be eaten.

Field Trips We will have 2 field trips this year (one first semester and one second semester). We will send details ASAP. Notarized Field Trip form is required

Wonders Wonders is our reading series Weekly test based on skills, not weekly story and will include spelling tests Online textbooks are available and we will send the login home when we get it. Instruction is based on College and Career Ready Standards (CCRS) Spelling Test (no list, study the sound of the week) Wonders Test - students will be expected to read independently starting 2nd nine weeks.

Math Heritage uses Envision Math Journaling will be done in class. We want to see and understand our student’s thinking. Instruction is based on College and Career Ready Standards (CCRS) When there is a math test approaching we will email ASAP

Assessment Dibels- During the fall, 1st graders are tested on Letter Naming, Phonemic Segmentation, and Nonsense Words. By winter Oral Reading Fluency is added and Letter Naming and Phoneme Segmentation is dropped. By the end of the year students need to be reading a minimum of 69 words a minute. Your child’s scores for DIBELS will be sent home soon Star Tests (Early, Reading, Math) Fry Words (sight words): Can say automatically Common Math Assessments (counting)

Tuesday Folders Every Tuesday (except review weeks) Please sign and return all graded papers in the Tuesday folder

AR testing Students are expected to take and pass at least 2 AR tests weekly. Please make sure to read your child’s library book with them nightly. Will start next week (after Star) http://hrtg.madisoncity.k12.al.us/

Enrichment We constantly assess and differentiate instruction based on each individual student.

School Wide Behavioral Plan Class Dojo - online app that tracks choices during the day. I award positive or negative points based on behavior of students. Parents my monitor progress on phone/device. Specific info has been sent home. Detention- Wednesdays after school, determination made by administration after office referral. ISS (In School Suspension)

PE Return PE form. Students should wear tennis shoes or pack them in their backpack daily.

A passage & questions will be sent on Monday, and if completed by Friday, students are rewarded. This is not mandatory. Read with your child nightly.
