Annotation: Allusions Allusion: a figure of speech that makes a direct or indirect reference to people, places, events, literary work, myths, or works of art. When annotating for allusions, we will note instances where the text refers to other works and contexts. As you read the next section of Night, make 5+ annotations on allusions.

Annotation: Allusions Fun Fact: The Harry Potter books have hundreds of allusions in them. J.K. Rowling alluded to many mythological names, astronomy, and folklore: Sirius Black (Padfoot) – implicit reference to the constellation of Sirius the “Dog Star.” Remus Lupin’s code name as Romulus in The Deathly Hallows alludes directly to Roman mythology. The three headed dog, Fluffy, is also an allusion of the Greek mythological creature, Cerberus.
