Fig. 1 Dendrogram, pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) patterns and antibiograms for 17 Shigella sonnei isolates. The dendrogram was constructed with composite of PFGE-NotI and PFGE-XbaI patterns in a 1 : 1 weight ratio. DNA bands associated with the invasive plasmid are marked by red arrows. With respect to antimicrobial susceptibility, resistance is denoted by red rectangles and susceptibility by green rectangles. The isolates marked as deep blue rectangles were from the shigellosis outbreak among HIV-infected men who have sex with men, the one marked as a pink rectangle was from an outbreak in a military camp occurring in January 2015, the four marked as red rectangles were from sporadic cases in eastern Taiwan, and the three marked as green were imported from Cambodia and India. Ten isolates from the military-camp shigellosis outbreak had the same PFGE genotype.
