Update on WIGOS Activities Within CHy ICG-WIGOS-3 10-14 February 2014 WMO; Climate and Water Department

Support of WIGOS Implementation by CHy CHy-14 programme of work included two priority themes incorporating WIGOS-specific components: QMF-Hydrology Data Operations and Management QMF-Hydrology includes requirement for reviewing Tech Regs (WMO-49, Vol. III), in association with TT-WRM. Data Ops & Management involves testing/evaluating WaterML 2.0 as possible WMO standard for water data exchange; provision of guidelines & tools for optimizing data collection and dissemination compatible with WIS, WIGOS, and GEOSS;linked with TT-WMD. WMO

Progress on WIGOS Related Activities World Hydrological Observing System (WHOS) Portal to the near real-time and historical streamflow data (both water level and discharge) currently available online from NHSs Stations included should be WIGOS compliant Next step is to develop an implementation plan Technical Regulations Draft of Chapter 8 regarding WHOS for the Manual on WIGOS and for the Technical Regulations for WIGOS is in preparation. Regional Working Groups on Hydrology Regional Working Groups on Hydrology are being encouraged to incorporate linkages with WIGOS in their work programmes.

CHy Perspectives on WIGOS Linkage with other WMO Priorities WIGOS is an enabler and should be: responsive to the needs and requirements of all WMO programmes and activities. assisting WMO in fulfilling its role in meeting global societal needs, including the socio-economic well being of the Members
