Creating Essential Questions

Why Create Essential Questions? To make the summarizing process easier. To ensure that you properly understand the purpose of the day’s lesson.

Convert the day’s Standard into a question. What To Do If There Is No Essential Question Be proactive: Ask the teacher: “What is the one question that I should be able to answer after today’s lesson?” Be friendly and non-confrontational. Make sure it’s when they are not busy. Convert the day’s Standard into a question.

Let’s Practice RI-910.1 English Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. English

Let’s Practice N-RN.2 Math Rewrite expressions involving radicals and rational exponents using the properties of exponents. Math

Let’s Practice You are studying the photosynthesis process in Biology that day. Biology

Creating Essential Questions Think about how you would summarize these notes tonight… EQ: “How can I generate an Essential Question?”
