How significant was Daniel O’Connell in the development of the relationship between Britain and Ireland? Subject Objective(s) To understand the significance of O’Connell. To understand the demands of the first piece of coursework.

Learning Outcomes:

Read through the model answer you have been given. What are the key features?

Planning for your coursework: Question A Step 1: Highlight the contemporary sources, demonstrating what they say about O’Connell’s short-term significance. Step 2: Read through the historians. Which points of significance raised by the contemporary sources do they support?

We are going to create a paragraph together, modelling the way that a good coursework paragraph is written.

Collaborative Writing Work in a pair to develop a second paragraph based on the same format that we have just created as a class. You will need a copy each.

Speed Dating Peer Assessment Take a copy of what you have written so far and pair up with someone. Work together to re-write it and improve the quality of it. We are going to do this a couple of times.

Final Independent Writing Homework: Final Independent Writing …this needs to be completed for homework.

Period 6 work You are going to be given some reading for next Tuesday. I am going to give you one article to read. The key question we will discuss is: How significant was Young Ireland in influencing the relationship between Britain and Ireland? Highlight information which shows they were significant and information which suggests they were not significant.
