Content of the proposed regulation on CoD One transmission by MS to Eurostat: One file for residents (possibly with data on causes of death of residents dying abroad) And another one for non-residents dying in the reporting country Eurostat will disseminate data on: Residents (by causes of death, region of residence, age/sex) Non-residents who died within the EU (by cause of death, country of residence, age/sex (without country/region of occurrence)) Deaths by country of occurrence (by cause of death, region of occurrence, age/sex (without country/region of residency)) Meeting of the Directors of Social Statistics (DSS) 23-24 September 2010

Content of the proposed regulation on ESAW Focuses on employees of almost all NACE sectors – remain optional: Sectors T and U Professions/activity sectors, difficult to cover for confidentiality reasons Gradual implementation in 2 phases (2013 and 2015): Coverage of NACE sectors in 2 steps Data on causes and circumstances transmitted for 2015 Actual timeliness of transmission to 18 months kept T: ACTIVITIES OF HOUSEHOLDS AS EMPLOYERS; UNDIFFERENTIATED GOODS- AND SERVICES-PRODUCING ACTIVITIES OF HOUSEHOLDS FOR OWN USE U: ACTIVITIES OF EXTRATERRITORIAL ORGANISATIONS AND BODIES Meeting of the Directors of Social Statistics (DSS) 23-24 September 2010

Next steps If positive opinion of DSS: November 2011: Both regulations to be presented to the European Statistical System Committee (ESS) First trimester of 2011: Publication of this Regulation in the Official Journal of the European Union The main element for preparing the 2nd round is represented by the workshop that will be organised by the Robert Koch Institute in Germany, most probably in May 2010. 6. Conclusion The DSS are asked to give their opinion on the two draft Commission regulations on: Causes of Death (CoD) Accidents at Work (ESAW) The main element for preparing the 2nd round is represented by the workshop that will be organised by the Robert Koch Institute in Germany, most probably in May 2010.
