Rotation On a coordinate grid. For a Rotation, you need An angle or fraction of a turn –Eg 90° or a Quarter Turn –Eg 180° or a Half Turn A direction –Clockwise.
Compare and order numbers from 0 up to 100; use <, > and = signs.

Year 2 Spring Term Week 6 Lesson 1 Shape and Space Year 2 Spring Term Week 6 Lesson 1

Today we will be learning to: recognise and describe turning movements recognise half and quarter turns to the left or right understand angle as a measure of turn recognise right angles.

What do we know about the number 100? Mental Activity What do we know about the number 100?

100

and we are going to learn about a special size of turn Main Activity Today we are going to continue our work finding out about different turns and we are going to learn about a special size of turn called a right angle.

Can you remember these turns and what they do? half turn quarter turn

clockwise anti-clockwise Can you remember these turns and what they do?

Excuse me Owl, but what is a right angle? A right angle is a quarter turn.

12 6 9 3 1 2 4 5 7 8 10 11 Look at this clock.

Look at the size of the corner. 12 6 9 3 1 2 4 5 7 8 10 11 Look at the size of the corner.

What other shapes have a corner like this? 12 6 9 3 1 2 4 5 7 8 10 11 What other shapes have a corner like this?

This is called a ‘right-angled’ corner. 12 6 9 3 1 2 4 5 7 8 10 11 This is called a ‘right-angled’ corner.

Group Work Make a ‘right angle measurer’. Can you think of things that have corners which are greater than or less than a right angle? Cut out a quarter of a circle to make a ‘right angle measurer’. Use it to find things which have right angles.
