Travel Insurance Guide 2019-2020 Rotary Youth Exchange Students D9800– 2019

WHAT IF YOU GET CROOK? Who will pay the Medical costs?

Statistics Each year around 400 students travel to and from Australia on exchange. 30% will require compensation for injury, sickness or loss of property. Will you be one of those 128? Because you don’t know, please listen carefully.

Your Overseas Lifeline You might become ill or injured, you could lose some of your property. Your Travel Insurance will help pay for these costs. Instructions on how to claim for these costs will be provided

What You Must Do Before You Leave Obtain a letter from your Doctor that says you are “fit to travel”. Have a dental check, especially wisdom teeth. Make sure your Parent or Guardian has a current passport.

What gets packed where? All valuable items such as laptops, cameras, musical instruments etc. to be carried as hand luggage. (No cover if stolen from baggage). Carry all original documents such as Passport, Airline Tickets, Travel Insurance as hand luggage, with a copy of each in baggage and email the copy to yourself.

How to use ACE ASSISTANCE In an emergency: Phone CHUBB assist 61-2-8907 5995 State you are a Rotary YE Student. Advise your contact number State type of assistance required. Advise your Club Counsellor and Host Family of this procedure.

When to use CHUBB Assistance In any emergency situation. Whenever authorisation for payment is required by Hospital or Doctor etc. Urgent legal advice. * Must not be used for inquiries.

How To Make A Claim Medical/Dental: Complete relevant section of claim form. Scan/email with receipts to District Chair. Lost or stolen property: (Reported to police). Complete and sign claim form. Retain all original documents.

*Under no circumstances send it anywhere else. Where To Send Claim Form To your District District Chair The claim will then be sent to CHUBB *Under no circumstances send it anywhere else. If you wish to be paid, the documentation must go to your District Chair.

Why shouldn’t I send the claim form directly to the insurance company? 1. The insurer CHUBB only deals with our broker, and not directly with students. 2. Your Parents or District Chair have the opportunity to see that you have correctly completed the claim form thereby avoiding delays.

When Can I Make a Claim? Medical/Dental: As soon as you have paid for your consultation and or medication. If you require surgery, contact CHUBB Assistance who will authorise payment to Hospital/Doctor. Also contact your parents and District Chair Property: As soon as practical after loss ($250 excess applies to all property claims)

Where To Send the Claim Form To your Parents to check and then your District Chair. *Under no circumstances send it anywhere else. If you wish to be paid, the documentation must go to your District Chair

Personal Property Laptops, cameras, musical instruments etc are covered up to $3,000 any one item. Higher sums insured are available at an additional premium. Theft/burglary cover only provided as a result of forcible entry to locked vehicle or premises. *Stolen property must be reported to the police.

Summary Advise your District Chair and host family of your claim and CHUBB Assist procedures. Claims of an urgent nature, call CHUBB Assist 61-2-8907 5995, state you are a Rotary Exchange Student, contact number & nature of assistance required. All claims go to your parents to check and then to your District Chair. All theft or lost baggage must include police/transport carrier’s report. * Every Claim must have a Claim Form

Additional Insurance Under no circumstances purchase additional insurance without referral to your Australian District Chair. You are covered 24 hours a day worldwide, from when you leave home until you return home. No additional insurance is necessary

Frequently Asked Questions Can I claim the costs of returning to Australia to attend the funeral of a relative? In most instances yes. * Discuss this potential situation with your family before the exchange

I forgot I was not in Australia when driving my host brother’s car on the wrong side of the road, and caused an accident. What should I do? Go home and pack! Can I make a claim for the damage to the vehicles? Can if you like, however since you have broken the rules, the insurer may deny the claim.

Can I claim for something stolen from a car? Yes if the car was locked and you notified the police.

What should I do if I lose my wallet? 1. Notify the police 2. Cancel your Credit Cards 3. Advise your Parents & Host Parents 4. Notify District Chair in Australia for advice on how to proceed with a claim.

What should I do if my Host Rotary Club insists that I take out extra insurance to go on my bus tour? Do not attempt to resolve this yourself, refer the matter immediately to your District Chair in Australia.

What should I do if I’m asked to pay for damage to someone else’s property? As this is a Liability claim, you do nothing without contacting your District Chair in Australia. What if I injure somebody and they sue me? Immediately advise your District Chair in Australia.

What should I do if my Host Mum pays for my Doctor’s visit? Reimburse her immediately, and send the receipt and Claim Form to your Parents to check and then to your District Chair for processing. * Never leave your Hosts out of pocket for Medical expenses

What should I do if a claim seems to be taking too long to settle? Check that you have actually completed and sent a Claim Form with receipts your parents or District Chair. Allow at least 14 days for processing.

MORAL If you need to claim follow the rules, and you will be compensated. Remember, every claim requires a claim form If unsure ask
