JANUARY KINDERGARTEN TEAM NEWS Week of 1/16-1/19 Parent Info: Last week we spoke about Martin Luther King Jr. It was nice to discuss that this great man had a dream and that he followed it and made changes to make this world great. We also discussed what we can do to make this world great. This week we will write about how we can make the world a better place to live. We will hang them in the classroom for now but will be sent home later on this week or early next week. REMINDER: Please have your child wear sneakers on gym day. This week we will be working on... Reading/Phonics: We are really trying to grasp putting things in alphabetical order. We will continue to work on this using various lists of words. We will continue trying to spell words by stretching out the word. I know that this has been the status in this space for a while, but we need to continue working on these skills to help them become stronger readers and writers. Math: We will be finishing up Unit 6. The students are working hard on this unit. Continued work on counting by twos, counting to 100 and writing the numbers at home will help them as we move on to the next units. We worked on lap/clap for counting 2s – ask your student to show you. TEST ON WEDNESDAY! Writing: The students are working really hard on writing sentences. They find it difficult to come up with sentences and write them on their own, but we will be working on this a lot more in the upcoming weeks. They are using capital letters and punctuation along with making spaces between words. HWT: The week we will start working on the lowercase letters. SS/Science: Our Under the sea unit is progressing nicely. Miss April picked this unit and os the one teaching it to the students. It is nice to see the kids enjoy learning about the different animals. Our class currently has a fish and a whale hanging in it, made by the class. I cant wait to continue this unit and add to our class display. We will also be starting our Unit on Hibernation. Reading Groups: The kids are doing so well, I am proud of each one of them. We are going to move to the next level this week. I have also put other books in their bags for then to read to you. Please send the book bags to class every day. Sight Word: at, but
