What is inference? It’s a good guess Ex: sally’s make up is messed up, her clothes are wrinkled and she’s tardy to first period Inference: sally woke up late

What is diction? Diction is the word choice of the author Ex: you look nice today/you look incredible today

What is syntax? Syntax is the way sentences are put together Ex: He walked home Ex: he walked slowly past the park, where kids were playing, to get home Are sentences long or short?

What is imagery? What do you see, hear, feel, smell?

What is tone? Tone is the speaker’s attitude toward something Ex: what? Are you kidding? What is tone?
