Year 3 Sleepover Parent Q&A Wednesday 7th March 2018

Why are we doing it? As part of our topic we are learning about light. The children will be designing their own reading torches. We feel that this will be a fun and engaging way to test the torches at our sleepover. It is an exciting opportunity for the children to spend an evening away from home. Children gain valuable experience from being away from home before a longer residential in year 4 and 6. We hope it is an experience that they will cherish. We like to celebrate children's learning in many different ways and this will provide the children with an opportunity to apply their learning in a real life situation. We believe in a broad and balanced curriculum.

What will we be doing? At the light party the children will have the opportunity to…… Have a night time library session. Play games in the dark. Go on a light walk. Create a shadow show. At the sleepover the children will have the opportunity to…… Work in teams. Have a talent show. Sing songs and have hot chocolate around a campfire. Spend time with their friends. Play games.

How it will run 5.45pm – Sign in and pre dinner games. 6pm – dinner (pizza and finger food). 6.30pm – 7.30pm – Light party activities in houses 7.30pm – End of party and assembly. 7.40pm – Prepare for talent show. 8pm – Changed into PJ’s 8.10pm – campfire – hot chocolate and singing 8.30pm – S Factor show 8.50pm – set up beds and brush teeth 9pm – Story time and Lights out

What do I need to bring/ pack? Pyjamas and slippers Toothbrush/ toothpaste Sleeping bag/ pillow Roll mat (optional) Teddy bear or comforter (optional – child discretion) Clean underwear Favourite reading book (can use a school book). Please label all belongings and put in a named bag

Key questions Where will they get changed? Where will they sleep? What do I need to bring/ pack? Will it be warm enough? What if my child needs assistance during the night? Safety Additional needs. What of there is an emergency? Please take a copy of the key questions answered sheet with you.

The next day We will provide breakfast for the children. They can wear their clothes from the night before to school the next day. No need to pack school uniform. You can collect children at 3.20pm as normal on Thursday 29th March 2018. Their sleeping bags will be kept somewhere safe at school. In their bag they will need their snack packed for break time the following day. It may be easier for your child to be school dinners that day however if you would like to drop off a packed lunch then please drop it off at the office.

Next steps A final letter will go out this week Friday 9th March 2018 which will be when you state whether your child is going to the party only, both party and sleepover or neither. Along with a medical form. We require the return slips and medical form by Friday 16th March 2018 We have limited spaces available – if we exceed this then we will pick out of a hat. You will be notified if your child has been successful on Monday 19th March 2018.

Questions Thank you for coming. If you have any other questions please come and speak to one of us before you leave.
