LinkedIn, the key to a (global) career Madeleine Vakkuri & Matti Helelä

If you are not in LinkedIn, you are nowhere in the job market Some 80% of jobs are in the “hidden job market” Saanko esitellä LinkedIn-asiantuntijan? Tässä on kollegani Matti Helelä. And I’d like to present a LinkedIn specialist, my colleague Madleine Vakkuri.

TODAY What is LinkedIn? Why LinkedIn? How do companies use LinkedIn? How to create a powerful profile Sharing What do you need to know? Premium LinkedIn As you have noticed, this lecture will be held in Finnish and English. Toivottavasti tämä sopii jokaiselle. If something isn’t clear, you will have a little time to ask your questions at the end of the short presentation. Jos jokin on epäselvää, voitte esittää lopuksi kysymyksiä.

What is LinkedIn? LinkedIn is a business-oriented social networking service mainly used for professional networking. It was launched in May 2003 to fill a need in the global market. Today, LinkedIn is available in over 20 languages.

Why LinkedIn? 30% of all Google searches are job-related! 94% of recruiters use or plan to use social media for recruiting. Close to 8 recruiters out of 10 have already hired through social media. There are over 1 billion endorsements on LinkedIn. 93% of recruiters will look at your social profiles. Some 350 million users: Companies, CEOS, directors and employees have joined for “BRANDING” purpose and to search for a pool of potential talents.   But, the vast majority of LinkedIn profiles are from employed individuals wanting to advertise their skills and potentials to prospective employers, recruiters, employees, colleagues and friends graduates looking for a job students looking for an internship or a job

Why LinkedIn? LinkedIn is the most appreciated modern recruiters’ partner.   Every day there is an average of 15 million profile views, 1.45 million job views and 44,000 job applications in over 200 countries through mobile (Aug. 2014)

How do companies use LinkedIn? First, it is good to mention that organizations use the “LinkedIn Recruiter” version. This is one of the ways LinkedIn makes its money.

How to create a powerful profile? What do I need to know? What is it I want to be known for? How do I want people to perceive me? What makes me unique? What problems have I solved in the workplace? What are the keywords associated with my skills, occupation and industry? Before you start working on your profile, answer these questions.

How to create your powerful profile?

Sharing Link to your Google, Facebook, and Twitter profiles. Place a link to your video CV or one-minute commercial. Email it to friends, colleagues, and useful contacts in your network. Ask for referrals and recommendations Join groups Remember, just because you build it doesn’t mean they will come. The next phase is sharing. You now have a digital terrain! You have a sharable resource online!

Premium LinkedIn? Who has watched your profile when and how Who has bookmarked you profile HR director or employee – Marketing – Sales or Finance or Logistics In which position you stand in their list of potentials (good to know before an interview!) Note: you don’t need to get the Premium version. But, if you do (or your employer does) you will find out: who has watched your profile when and how who has bookmarked you profile (HR director or employee – Marketing – Sales or Finance or Logistics in which position you stand in their list of potentials (good to know before an interview!)
