Turn Abouts I am learning to change the order of the numbers to make multiplication easier. e.g. 8 X 2 = or 2 X 8 =
SAMPLE PROBLEM Here’s an example. Below are 6 groups with 2 counters in each group or 6 X 2 = 12 We could change this so we had 2 groups with 6 counters in each group. Notice how we still have the same amount of counters, they are just grouped differently.
SAMPLE PROBLEM Let’s think about it from a different point of view. Below are 8 groups with 3 counters or 8 X 3 = 24 If you tilt your head you can see how they are also in 3 groups of 8 or 3 X 8 = 24. Keep clicking to watch the counters change from being in 8 groups of 3 to being in 3 groups of 8. Notice how we still have the ame amount of counters.
SAMPLE PROBLEM Use counters to make the following problems. When you have made these, or drawn these, click again to check your answer. 1a) 3 X 4 = ? 1b) 4 X 3 = ? 2a) 5 X 7 = ? 2a) 7 X 5 = ?

The first one has been done for you. 9 X 2 = ? 2 X 9 = 18 7 X 3 = ? 3) 8 X 5 = ? 4) 6 X 2 = ? 5) 8 X 3 = ? 3 X 7 = 21 5 X 8 = 40 2 X 6 = 12 3 X 8 = 24 Click again when you have worked out all your answers.
