Common Core Standards: Tuesday, February 12th, 2019 Common Core Standards: RI.11-12.1 RI.11-12.2, and SL.11-12.1 Aim: How do we compare and contrast Booker T. Washington’s autobiography with Frederick Douglass’ autobiography? Do Now: Read the synopsis on the back of Frederick Douglass’ memoir. Answer one of the following questions. 1.) How can you compare or contrast Booker T. Washington’s Up From Slavery and Frederick Douglass’ narrative? 2.) How do you think that Booker T. Washington and Frederick Douglass were able to achieve success despite their slave experiences? *Show owed HW. Objective: Students will be able to compare and contrast two slave autobiographies.

Common Core Standards: RI.11-12.1 RI.11-12.2, and SL.11-12.1 Tuesday, February 12th, 2019 Aim: How do we compare and contrast Booker T. Washington’s autobiography with Frederick Douglass’ autobiography? Objective: : Students will be able to compare and contrast two slave narratives. Agenda A.) Do Now: Turn and talk with your tablemates. Choose a new captain. Captains will prepare to share their tablemates’ answers with the whole class. B.) Discuss/Share: Captains will share Do Now answers. C.) Mini-Lesson: Read the opening pages of Frederick Douglass’ slave narrative. Discuss and take notes (in the LA section) on Douglass’ struggles, predicted accomplishments, comparisons and contrasts to Washington’s Up From Slavery and your first impressions. Check out the books to be taken home in order to complete the homework. D.) Q & A/Reflections: What do you predict will happen next in Douglass’ narrative?
