The Change I Need While it may not be obvious at first why those who have been “raised in the church” need to change when they obey the gospel, they do. The gospel changes both the worldly and the religious.

The Gospel changed the Worldly The pagan Ephesians were changed! They gave up worldly superstitions (Acts 19:11-20) They gave up idolatry (Acts 19:26-27) They gave up following the ways of Satan! (Ephesians 2:1-3) They were exhorted to be transformed! (Ephesians 4:17-24 ff.) The Corinthians were also changed! (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

The Gospel Changed the Religious How did Peter need to change? He needed to learn to rely on the Lord for direction and counsel, and not on himself. Rebuked Jesus (Matthew 16:21-23) Refused to have feet washed (John 13:3-10) Denied the Lord (John 13:36-38) In John 21:15-22, the Lord sees the change coming in Peter. Paul (Saul) also needed to change! He was an insolent, arrogant, persecutor! (1 Timothy 1:13; 2 Corinthians 12:7-9)
