2018 SMASH Medical Curriculum Healthcare Professionals Panel July 8, 2018 Students will break into small groups with healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses, dentists, etc.) and learn about their career paths and what inspired them to pursue healthcare Introduction to Surgical Skills July 11, 2018 & July 25, 2018 Students will work with the Goodman Surgical Education Center to learn about a surgeon’s career and also practice knot tying and basic laparoscopic skills using surgical training equipment Clinical Anatomy Tour July 18, 2018 & July 25, 2018 Students will visit the Clinical Anatomy Division and learn about human anatomy through use of stereoscopic images, an interactive Anatomage table, and bone collections Vital Signs 101 July 11, 2018 & July 18, 2018 Students will work with medical students and residents to learn the importance of vital signs and practice measuring several of these health indicators Patient Stories & Next Steps August 1, 2018 Students will hear from cochlear implant patients to learn about the impact of medicine and also receive advice for pursuing a healthcare career from pre-health advisors, medical students, and residents 5, 90-minute sessions
