Algebra 2 Ch.2 Notes Page 7 P7 2-2 Linear Equations Part 2

Slope-Intercept Form y = mx + b Standard Form Ax + By = C Types of Equations Slope-Intercept Form y = mx + b Standard Form Ax + By = C Point-Slope Form y - y1 = m (x - x1) Horizontal Lines & Vertical Lines y = Number x = Number Parallel and Perpendicular Lines Slopes and Reciprocals

Slope Intercept Form y = mx + b m = 3 and (2, 4)

Standard Form Ax + By = C 4x + 8y = 24 Find X and Y Intercepts

Point Slope Form y - y1 = m(x - x1) m = 2 and (3, 4)

Slope-intercept: y = mx + b 3 equations for a line: Slope-intercept: y = mx + b Point-slope: y - y1 = m(x - x1) Standard form: ax + by = c slope y-intercept all x, y STAY as they ARE! (x,y) point on line numbers

Equation: x = some number. Vertical Lines: Up & down. Have undefined slope Equation: x = some number. Horizontal Lines: Left & right Have zero slope Equation: y = some number.

y = 2x + 5 Parallel and through (4,6) y = 2/3x + 3 Perpendicular and Parallel Lines: never touch each other, so they must have THE SAME SLOPE!! y = 2x + 5 Parallel and through (4,6) Perpendicular Lines: hit each other at a right angle. one slope has to positive, one has to be negative. They must be negative reciprocals y = 2/3x + 3 Perpendicular and through (4,6)
