Immunofluorescence staining of respiratory cells. Immunofluorescence staining of respiratory cells. In each panel the cell is seen in the bottom right-hand corner. The other three images represent the same cell seen in the channel for each immunofluorescence colour. Cells were immunolabelled as follows. Green: anti-acetylated tubulin antibody; blue: DAPI (the nucleus staining); red: anti-DNAH5 antibody. a) In a healthy individual the DNAH5 protein is clearly detectable in cilia (compare the red and the green channel). b) In a patient with PCD caused by mutations in DNAH5 gene the resulting altered DNAH5 protein is mislocalised and detectable only in the cell cytoplasm but not in the cilia (compare the red and the green channel).
